A pilot project for the installation of a smart electricity grid was presented on Friday, as part of which the HEP ODS power distribution company plans to invest HRK 90 million in the Zagreb area.
The project is worth a total of HRK 176.83 million, of which 85% or HRK 149.95 million will be co-financed by the European Union, HEP ODS said in a statement on Friday.
The project covers three functional areas of the smart power distribution grid – advanced metering infrastructure, conventional grid development and optimisation, and automation of the medium voltage grid.
It will be implemented in five out of 21 distribution areas.
Advanced metering infrastructure will enable monitoring of electricity consumption, active management of consumption at end-consumer level, and a more precise calculation of losses.
The existing meters, used by 24,000 end consumers, will be replaced by smart meters.
