An earthquake measuring 4.0 on the Richter scale was registered in the area of Petrinja at 13:08 hours, Croatia's Seismological Survey said on Thursday afternoon.

The Petrinja area was hit by a magnitude 6.2 earthquake on 29 December which killed seven people and caused enormous damage.

Since then a series of aftershocks have been felt in the area.
