The Western Balkans urgently needs European perspective, otherwise the misfortunes experienced in the past may repeat, said European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker addressing a conference on European solidarity in Florence on Friday.

Juncker said that Brussels should take a firmer stance on the EU common foreign policy, and Europe should pay more attention to the protection of its external borders.

During his speech, President Juncker expressed concern over the cracks that have emerged in the solidarity in Europe since the migration crisis started in 2015.

The European Parliament President, Antonio Tajani, said that EU member states should act together to provide security to all citizens of the union.

“The problem with migrants cannot be solved by the countries in the south of Europe alone, solidarity is key,” Tajani added.
