An agreement on a HRK 313.7 million EU grant for the Piskornica regional waste management centre for four counties in north-western Croatia was signed in Koprivnica on Thursday.

The grant comes from the Operational Programme Competitiveness and Cohesion 2014-20.

The total project value is HRK 448.2 million, with the EU covering 70% of the cost, the Environmental Protection and Energy Efficiency Fund 20% and the Piskornica company 10%.

Economy and Sustainable Development Minister Tomislav Coric, one of signatories, said the construction of this regional waste management centre did not mean that the work on an efficient waste management system in Croatia was over.

The centre, whose capacity will be 99,877 tonnes a year, will manage waste from Korpivnica-Krizevci, Varazdin, Medjimurje, and Krapina-Zagorje counties.
