Daryl Davis for Global Fokus: How can you hate me if you don't know me?

N1

African American blues musician turned activist, Daryl Davis, talked to N1 Television's Ivana Dragicevic for the global affairs program Global Fokus. A native of Chicago and a renowned jazz and soul pianist who had played with genre greats such as Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, and B.B. King, later in his career turned to activism by befriending members of the Ku Klux Klan, eventually convincing hundreds of them to leave the organisation over 30 years of activism.

His mission of countering racism by talking to racists continues to this day, inspired by his motto ‘How can you hate me if you don’t know me?’

Davis talked to Ivana Dragicevic about white supremacy, racial tensions in the United States, the radicalisation and polarisation of American politics, and the changing demographic landscape in that country. And, of course, about music.
