Justice Minister Ivan Malenica said on Monday that there were currently 82 inmates in the prison system who had recently tested positive to coronavirus and that measures were being taken to prevent  the contagion from spreading.

“Currently we have 82 prisoners in the penitentiary system who are infected with Covid-19 while 106 prisoners have been ordered to self-isolate,” Malenica said in Split.

“So far 2,255 prisoners have been vaccinated and 1,400 officers and we can be relatively satisfied with that information but we are taking measures to prevent the virus from spreading further,” said Malenica.

Asked how the virus entered the prison system, Malenica said that the virus entered the Remetinac jail during visits.
