Bosnia’s Foreign Affairs Ministry advises all BiH citizens who were involved in the defence of Bosnia and Herzegovina in the period from 1992 to the end of 1995, in any way, not to travel to the Republic of Serbia until further notice, the Ministry announced Tuesday.
The warning came after the arrest of Edin Vranj, the former high official of the Federation (FBiH) entity Police Administration, in Serbia who was accused of alleged war crimes in BiH.
“The warning is issued due to the risk of arrest and prosecution in the Republic of Serbia on charges of war crimes, and on the basis of previous cases of arrest of BiH citizens against whom no proceedings are being conducted in Bosnia and Herzegovina or who are not charged by BiH judicial institutions with war crimes,” the Ministry said.
“Unfortunately, the warning is issued due to circumstances in which the institutions of the Republic of Serbia do not show the will for active international cooperation and exchange of information in this field, based on previously signed protocols and international law.”
Edin Vranj was ordered 30-day custody on Tuesday, by the Belgrade High Court on suspicion that he might flee Serbia.
He was arrested on Sunday while crossing the border to Serbia.
