The five percent customs rate on the import of electric cars to Bosnia and Herzegovina could soon be annulled and the 15 percent rate on hybrid vehicles reduced to five percent, according to local media.

Bosnian Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations has drafted a proposal on temporary suspending and reduction of customs rate for the import of electric and hybrid vehicles for the period ending with December 31 2022, according to Capital.ba website.

It was not specified if or when the proposal would be sent into official procedure.

The potential adoption of this proposal would incite the import of these vehicles and the country would achieve multiple benefits from both the aspect of reducing the air pollution and protection of environment as well as the aspect of increasing the safety in traffic.

“Also, the decision would contribute to the harmonization of customs rates that are applied for the import of newly produced cars in BiH with the customs rates of those applied in the region for the import of these products,” the ministry said.

The customs rates that are annulled and reduced do not refer to the goods originating from the countries with whom Bosnia and Herzegovina signed free trade agreements.
