Bosnia and Herzegovina has recorded 1,031 new coronavirus cases, another daily figure that exceeds 1,000, while 32 Covid-19 patients died, the healthcare authorities confirmed on Sunday.
The new results came from 3,567 lab tests performed on those who reported infection symptoms.
With the new spike in coronavirus cases across the country, Bosnia and Herzegovina now has 17,930 active Covid-19 patients.
Due to the dramatic increase in new coronavirus cases, particularly in the capital, Sarajevo Canton authorities introduced new restrictions including a partial weekend lockdown, which bans the work of all non-essential stores and businesses. Bars, cafes and restaurants will reopen on Monday.
Also, inspection and police officers intensified controls in the city, issuing fines to those who do not obey the anti-epidemic measures, which among others include a mandatory outdoor wearing of face masks.
Due to the new coronavirus spike, Banja Luka, the second-largest city situated in the country’s north, also introduced stricter measures, ordering the citizens mandatory outdoor wearing of face masks and banning all private and public gatherings.
Other cities and regions are also regularly reviewing the epidemic situation and based on conclusions introducing necessary restrictions.
The total of 144,189 infections has been reported in Bosnia and Herzegovina since the epidemic outbreak, with 120,738 those who have recovered to date – 451 in the last 24 hours.
The country’s Covid-19 death toll stands at 5,521.
