Ahead of the spring sitting of the Sabor, on Monday about 50 lawmakers were vaccinated against Covid-19.
Lawmakers from the ruling majority as well as those from SDP, IDS and HSS were administered with Pfizer’s Covid vaccine while those from the Homeland Movement, Bridge and the Green-Left bloc said that they would not be vaccinated as it was more important to vaccinate at-risk groups of the population.
The Green-Left bloc said that medical staff and vulnerable groups of the population should have priority in being vaccinated.
Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) whip Branko Bacic said that this was a strong message about the need to be vaccinated and not a privilege.
Aware that part of the population is sceptical about vaccination, Bacic believes that this way parliamentarians will contribute towards convincing citizens that this is the right way to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Social Democratic Party (SDP) leader Pedja Grbin said that it was important for officials to show the importance of vaccination by their own example.
Of the 151 lawmakers in the parliament, 36 have recovered from Covid. Taking into consideration parliamentarians who have recovered from Covid and the number who were vaccinated today, it can be said that more than half of the parliamentarians are protected against the virus.
