Croatia Airlines's first flight at Osijek Airport on Monday marked the beginning of a passenger flight service to Munich, which is the first international route the national flag carrier launched in that airport.

The flight route was launched based on an agreement signed in September this year, under which flights will run Mondays and Fridays from 15 November 2021 to 14 February 2022, and ticket prices will start from €129.

“We’re at the beginning of a project to revitalise the airport and it’s logical that we’ve connected with our national flag carrier, so I thank the Croatia Airlines company for establishing for the first time an international route from this airport,” said Osijek Airport director Ivan Kos.

CA director Jasmin Bajić thanked everyone involved in the realisation of that project, expressing hope that the route would operate year-round.

In addition to the flight to Munich, the air traffic control tower at Osijek Airport was renovated, in which Croatia Air Traffic Control (HKZP), a state-owned company that provides air navigation services, invested seven million kuna.

HKZP director Vlado Bagaric underscored that the investment was part of systematic investment in the quality and safety of HKZP services. The company has invested over HRK 117 million in capacity and in increasing air traffic safety over the past two years, despite the pandemic.

Osijek Mayor Ivan Radić said that the launch of a new route connected Osijek with a very important European traffic hub, pointing out that passenger routes from Munich flew to the whole world, which was important for positioning Osijek as a regional traffic centre.

Radić also said that in cooperation with the government and Osijek-Baranja County, transport infrastructure projects worth HRK 800 million were currently under way in Osijek
