Following a proposal by Youth Action's city councillor Vedran Vivoda, the City of Rijeka will start to co-finance nanny services as of 1 January 2022, this political party told a press conference earlier this week.

“This measure is one of the solutions to the current problem of a lack of capacities in Rijeka’s kindergartens,” Youth Action stressed in a press release.

There are more than 200 children on the waiting list for kindergartens in Rijeka, with most of them being in the nursery age group and with both parents employed, and that is the situation after an intervention by deputy mayor Sandra Krpan and finding additional space for kindergartens, Youth Action stressed.

According to legal provisions, local and regional government units participate in the co-financing of nanny services. The nanny model has proved to be extremely good in solving the problem of working parents with organised care for children, Youth Action said.

The city department for health care and social welfare will be in charge of financing. Parents will participate with HRK 720 (€96) per month.
