Croatian independent MEP Mislav Kolakusic is one of three members of the European Parliament who will be sanctioned with a loss of two daily allowances, or about €650, for violating COVID rules, which require anyone entering the European Parliament building to show their COVID pass.

At the start of the session on Wednesday, European Parliament President David Sassoli said that unfortunately he would have to impose sanctions on MEPs breaking the COVID pass rules.

Not only are they violating the rules that we ourselves have set, but they are also endangering their own health and the health of everyone else in Parliament, he said.

Under Parliament’s Rules of Procedure, Kolakusic, German MEP Christine Anderso and Lithuanian Stasys Jakeliūnas were sanctioned with a loss of two daily allowances and Romanian MEP Cristian Terheş with seven daily allowances, while Irish MEPs Clare Daly and Mick Wallace were given a warning.
