Downtown Zagreb will be free of vehicles on Wednesday as part of European Day Without Cars, marked on September 22. Drivers are advised to use public transport, while a traditional bike ride will be held in the evening hours.
Transport in downtown Zagreb will be banned from 8 am to 8 pm, police announced, noting that ambulances, fire trucks, police cars and other emergency vehicles and public transport will be allowed to travel as usual.
The police advised people to use public transport and to avoid visiting the city’s centre in their vehicles. Delivery vans were requested to conduct their business before 7 am.
The police also called on pedestrians and road users to observe temporary traffic signals and police directions.
The traditional bike ride along a seven-kilometre-long route through the city centre will take place in the evening hours, starting at 6 pm in Zrinjevac Park, and Mayor Tomislav Tomasevic is expected to participate.
The aim of the event is to highlight the benefits of cycling as an environmentally friendly means of transport.
