Croatian MPs on Friday endorsed the ratification of investment protection agreements between EU member states and Vietnam and Singapore, which are aimed at improving the investment climate, state agency Hina said.

The agreements ensure for EU investors in Vietnam and Singapore fair and equitable treatment and protection from discrimination in relation to domestic investors, as well as regulating dispute solving between investors, said Zdenko Lucic, a Foreign Ministry official.

“Any increase in foreign investments, not just in Croatia but in other EU member states as well, has a positive effect on the Croatian economy, said Zdravka Busic of the ruling HDZ party.

“Singapore put certain restrictions on drinking water supplies and real estate ownership in the agreement, managing to put the EU in an unfavorable investment position concerning water supply in order to protect this resource, whereas Croatia deliberately destroys it, said Zvonimir Troskot of the opposition populist party Most.

Hina did not clarify what Troskot meant.
