Seven new county prefects elected and seven reelected in runoff

After the second round of local polls, seven counties have new heads, while seven incumbent county prefects were reelected, according to the results of Sunday's runoff.

Longtime incumbent county prefects — Radimir Cacic of Varazdin, Damir Bajs of Bjelovar-Bilogora, Goran Pauk of Sibenik-Knin, and Darko Milinovic of Lika County– were unseated in the runoffs.

Six counties got their prefects on May 16

Six county prefect were the outright winners in the first round of voting on 16 May — Antonija Jozic (HDZ/HSU) of Pozega-Slavonija County, Igor Andrilovic (HDZ/HSLS) of Virovitica-Podravina County, Ivan Anusic (HDZ and partners) of Osijek-Baranja County, Danijel Marusic (HDZ and partners) of Slavonski Brod-Posavina County, Zeljko Kolar (SDP/HSS/HSU) of Krapina-Zagorje County and Matija Posavec (independent) of Medjimurje County.

Among the new county heads there are two women — Antonija Jozic, and Martina Furdek-Hajdin (HDZ/HSLS) in Karlovac County.

The ruling centre-right Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) has 13 county prefects, and it supported another two prefects.

Two county prefects are representatives of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), one is of the Istrian Democratic Party (IDS) and two county prefects were independent candidates – Posavec and  Marko Jelic of Sibenik-Knin.

With over 98 percent of ballots counted, Stjepan Kozic (HDZ, SKNL, Labour and Solidarity Party, HSU, HSLS, HNS) was reelected Zagreb County prefect with 54.58 percent of the vote, defeating Mihael Zmajlovic (SDP, HSS), who received 45.54 percent of the vote in the runoff.

Zlatko Komadina (SDP, PGS, IDS, HSU, HSS) remains Primorje-Gorski Kotar County prefect with 57.89 percent of the vote, while his opponent Gari Cappelli (HDZ, HSLS) received 42.11 percent.

HDZ kept Karlovac County, where Martina Furdek-Hajdin (HDZ, HSLS) won 62.07 percent of the vote, while Stjepan Mikulandrić (SDP, HSS) took 37.93 percent.

Lika-Senj County got a new county prefect – Ernest Petry (HDZ, HSS, HSU, HBS), who won 54.01 percent of the vote, unseating incumbent county prefect Darko Milinovic (45.99 percent).

Boris Miletic (IDS, ISU-PIP, Green) will be Istria County prefect with 50.16 percent of the vote, while his opponent Danijel Feric (SDP) took 49.84 percent.

Sibenik-Knin County elected a new county prefect, Marko Jelic (independent), who won 60.96% of the vote, defeating the incumbent Goran Pauk (HDZ), who received 39.04 percent.

The incumbent Koprivnica-Krizevci County Prefect Darko Koren (Mreza, HDZ) remain the county prefect with 51.22 percent of the vote, while Mladen Keser (SDP, HSLS, GLAS) took 48.78 percent.

In Bjelovar-Bilogora County, the incumbent county prefect Damir Bajs (independent, HSU, SU, BUZ, Democrats, Reformists, NSH, GLAS, Radic Brothers HSS, HSS) lost with 42.38 percent of the vote, while the new county head Marko Marusic (HDZ, HSLS) won 57.62 percent.

Bozidar Longin (HDZ, HSP, SU, Reformists) remains Zadar County prefect with 52.43 percent of the vote, defeating Ivica Zuvela (independent), who received 47.57 percent.

The incumbent Varazdin County Prefect Radimir Cacic (Reformists, Pensioners) lost with 48.34 percent of the vote, and was unseated by new county head Andjelko Stricak (HDZ, HSLS, HSU)  who won 51.66 percent.

The new head of Sisak-Moslavina County is Ivan Celjak (HDZ, HSLS, HSS, HSP, HKS, HNS, HSU), who won 72.15 percent of the vote, while Daniel Berdais (SDP, Centre, Labour, HDRS, ORah) got 27.85 percent.

In Vukovar-Srijem County, Damir Dekanic (HDZ) won 56.79 percent of the vote and defeated Josip Dabro (independent), who took 43.21 percent.

The voters in Split-Dalmatia County reelected Blazenko Boban (HDZ) as county head with 60.43 percent of the vote, while his opponent Ranko Ostojic (SDP) received 39.57 percent.

The incumbent Dubrovnik-Neretva County Prefect Nikola Dobroslavic (HDZ) won the fourth term with 52.23 percent of the vote, while his rival Bozo Petrov (Bridge) took 47.77 percent.
