Slovenia's GDP in 2020 was €46.297 billion and dropped by 5.5% in real terms and by 4.3% in nominal terms compared to 2019, according to a preliminary estimate released by the national statistical office on Friday.

The drop in GDP was mostly due to lower domestic consumption, which declined by 6.5%, while household consumption was down by 10%.

Last year, external demand also decreased, so exports fell by 8.7% and imports by 10.2%, with service imports and exports dropping by 20%.

In 2020, which was marked by the coronavirus pandemic, employment was down by 1%, and most of the ten thousand newly unemployed persons worked in production and hospitality.

Total employment in 2020 was 1,036,600 persons, and it decreased by 10,000 persons compared to 2019.
