Three US naval vessels have arrived in Croatia's Viktor Lenac shipyard for a regular overhaul. The US Sixth Fleet vessel USS Hershel "Woody" Williams has arrived this week, while the other two arrived earlier.
The USS Hershel “Woody” Williams is 240 metres long and 50 metres wide and has a carrying capacity of 72,000 tons. It is used as an expeditionary mobile base and has a crew of 150 military personnel and 50 civilians, said Zoran Kosic, who is in charge of the US naval programme at the shipyard.
The vessel will stay in the shipyard for 47 days. The two other ships are the USNS Trenton and the USNS Carson City.
Viktor Lenac has completed 47 projects for the US Navy to date and expects more to come. The cooperation with the US Navy is particularly important in the present time of reduced employment caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
Last year the shipyard generated HRK 305.5 million in operating revenue and HRK 231.9 million in operating expenditure, with a net profit of HRK 34.6 million. It carried out 67 overhaul projects.
