Croatia's donation of 140,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine arrived in Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday, Bosnia's authorities said.

Minister of Civil Aafairs, Dusan Kojic, tweeted that the shipment had arrived, and announced that another 70,000 doses of the Moderna vaccine would be delivered soon as a donation from the European Union. Bosnia is expected to have a total of 330,000 doses of donated vaccines at its disposal soon.

However, the vaccination of Bosnia’s 3.3 million population is still going slowly because of late deliveries of paid-for vaccine shipments, and is currently relying solely on donations from other countries. So far, Bosnia has received more than a million doses from Western producers, but also from Russia and China.

Despite the relatively stable situation and low case numbers, since mid-June the number of new daily cases steadily increased into double-digit territory, and local health experts warn of the spread of new coronavirus strains.

The 7-day incidence rate in Bosnia this week was 4.3 per 100,000 population, up from 3.0 last week.
