Croatia’s decision on the re-categorization of roads regarding the transport of goods will take effect at the end of the month and cause immense damage to businesses in Bosnia, according to the President of Bosnia's Foreign Trade Chamber, Ahmet Egrlic.

Egrlic said that, according to the re-categorisation, transit traffic will not be allowed for trucks exceeding 7.5 tons on some roads with border crossings between the two countries.

This means that transport companies from Bosnia that travel on those routes, and transport goods that are exported or imported into the country, will not be able to pass border crossings on roads covered by re-categorization, he explained.

Going to other border crossings increases transport costs, and in addition, carriers lose extra time, he explained.

“This is a key problem for producers and exporters from Bosnia,” he said.

Bosnia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Bisera Turkovic, said she contacted authorities in Croatia regarding the issue.

“We have already established certain contacts with the Croatian side on this issue and we expect that the talks will continue,” Turkovic tweeted.
