Kosovo got its first shipment of coronavirus vaccine from the WHO’s COVAX program and began inoculation on Monday with Prime Minister Albin Kurti getting vaccinated first.
The shipment of 24,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine landed at Pristina airport on Sunday evening. The Kosovo authorities are expecting to get a total of 100,800 doses through COVAX.
Speaking after getting his jab, Prime Minister Kurti said that the shipment is small but important. He called the public to get vaccinated. According to the Kosovo Health Ministry, the inoculation campaign will be in three stages with health system workers getting inoculated first along with people over the age of 80 and patients with chronic ailments. Some doctors and nurses have already been vaccinated in neighboring Albania.
