Health Minister Vili Beros said on Monday that the relaxation of the anti-epidemic restrictions was not yet on the agenda, considering new Covid numbers as well as the Covid-related death toll.

“Today, the number of new infections was 4.43 percent higher than a  week ago, also the infection has taken another 54 lives, and these are the statistics that do not allow me as the health minister to consent to any relaxation,” the minister told the press about the possible easing of Covid protocols having in mind the fact that Slovenia lifted the Covid certificate mandate in many cases earlier in the day.

Beros said that at the moment any radical moves should be avoided and also explained that other countries had not done away with COVID passes entirely and have kept them in the health and social welfare sectors.

Addressing the news conference after their meeting with the health minister, the heads of hospitals in Rijeka and Split, Alen Ruzic and Julije Mestrovic respectively said that the situation in their hospitals was slowly going back to normal.

“We have closed two smaller Covid wards, while we had a total of eight,” said Ruzic.

Mestrovic said that the number of hospitalized Covid patients was cut twofold in Split in comparison to the situation three weeks ago.
