Croatia's Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic, on Tuesday visited the Dairy Research and Development Centre in Virovitica, a major development project in the county worth 41 million kuna (€5.4 million).
The project was fully financed from the Agriculture Ministry’s budget as part of the implementation of the development agreement for the Slavonia, Baranja and Srijem region.
Plenkovic said that thanks to the Local and Regional Government Financing Act, revenues of Virovitica-Podravina County had increased by 100 million kuna (€13.3 million) compared with 2017.
“2 billion kuna (€266.6 million) worth of EU-funded projects have visibly advanced the development of the county thanks to efforts by local administrations and development agencies,” Plenkovic said, adding that the government had allocated 85 million kuna (€11.3 million) for 20,000 workers in Virovitica-Podravina County during the Covid-19 crisis.
Plenkovic was accompanied by Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Tomislav Coric and Agriculture Minister Marija Vucković. They met with Virovitica-Podravina County Prefect Igor Androvic and Virovitica Mayor Ivica Kirin, discussing transport connectivity, agriculture, irrigation, economy and waste management.
Virovitica is located about 150 kilometres northeast of Zagreb.
