The body of a Turkish national who had went missing last week was found on Sunday by Croatian border police in the Glina river in the northwest of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in the area bordering with Croatia, state agency Hina reported on Monday.
In the night of February 11-12 seven Turkish migrants reportedly attempted to illegally cross the border into Croatia from neighboring Bosnia by swimming across the Glina river which forms the border between the two countries.
Svevlad Hoffman, an advisor to Bosnia’s Border Police, said that six migrants escaped drowning while one was reported missing. He was believed to have drowned, Hoffman said, adding that Croatian police have notified Bosnian authorities that his body has been found.
The investigation into the case has been taken over by Bosnia’s prosecutors, and the six Turkish nationals who survived the ordeal are now in the custody of Bosnia’s Service for Foreigners’ Affairs.
