The State Judicial Council (DSV) has stated that five candidates submitted applications for the post of Supreme Court president by midnight 6 August, the official deadline, of whom one does not meet the set criteria.

In line with the Courts Act, on 11 August the DSV will forward the applications to the Office of the President of the Republic, who will request the Supreme Court General Assembly and the parliament’s Judiciary Committee to state their opinion on the candidates, the DSV said in response to the Croatian state news agency Hina’s query on Monday.

The DSV noted that the candidates’ applications would be made public on its website.

Applications for the post, following a third public call, were submitted by Zagreb Commercial Court judge Radovan Dobronic, Supreme Court judge Marin Mrcela, Zagreb attorney Sime Savic, High Criminal Court judge Lana Peto Kujundzic, and Pozega master of law Daniela Mejer, whose application did not meet the requirements.

President Zoran Milanovic, who recommends a candidate to parliament, said last Wednesday that Dobronić was his candidate, that he was relatively well-known to the public, that Dobronic was not a friend of his but that he had followed his work.
