Prime Minister and Croatian Democratic Union (HDZ) leader Andrej Plenkovic said on Monday that the government would "continue providing businesses with job-keeping support" in May, too.

The job retention scheme includes the monthly grant of 4,000 kuna per employee, support for the shortened working hours and fixed costs coverage,  Plenkovic told reporters before a meeting of the HDZ leadership.

The measures are intended for businesses affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Plenkovic went on to say that a great deal of enterprises and companies do their business as normal, which is evident in tax revenues and in some other activities.

In efforts to keep a balance between the economy and health, we are pursuing the only possible course which creates less pressure on our citizens than (the pressure) in other countries. This is evident in protest rallies being held across Europe and the world, while we do not have them, Plenkovic said.

We have managed to enable the normal functioning of the life and the economy as much as it is possible, despite all the possible negative consequences of the corona crisis, the premier said.
