Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic on Tuesday attended a ceremony marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of the 4th Guards Brigade, also known as "Pauci" (Spiders), praising that army unit for its contribution to Croatia's freedom and democracy.
“This brigade had nearly 7,400 troops. Of them, 196 were killed and four more soldiers are still accounted-for after they went missing in the war. More than 1,000 members were wounded, and the brigade was deployed in all important battle zones and gave an immeasurable contribution,” the premier said at the ceremony in Split.
HRK 1.8m of EU funds used by veterans for projects to build post-war Croatia
During today’s conversations with former members of this guards brigade, Plenkovic also talked about the re-adjustment of veterans to civilian life in peace time.
They tapped nearly HRK 1.8 million from the European Union’s funds for different projects and thus continued giving their contribution to the society after the war.
