Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived on Friday in Sarajevo to meet with the members of Bosnia’s tripartite Presidency and attend the wedding of the daughter of Bakir Izetbegovic, the leader of Bosnia’s strongest Bosniak party, where he will be best man.
Upon arrival, the Turkish president visited the grave of his late friend Alija Izetbegovic, the country’s first president and grandfather of the bride.
He attended the main Friday prayer at the Old Town’s Ottoman-era Havadza Mosque, built in the 16th century and refurbished thanks to a Turkish donation.
Erdogan will reopen the mosque after the restoration, which started in 2017, at a ceremony organized after the prayer.
The Turkish President is then set to meet with Bosnia’s Presidency members, Sefik Dzaferovic, Zeljko Komsic and Milorad Dodik.
