The epidemiological situation has mildly improved in Slovenia, however, it is still quite fragile and the situation in some neighboring countries is not that good, which is why the Slovenian government has called on citizens to refrain from travel unless necessary.

The recommendation to delay any non essential travel is still in force and any essential travel needs to consider conditions for leaving the country and those upon returning to Slovenia, a senior official in Slovenia’s foreign Minister, Andrej Ster said. He added that this in particular refers to the 1 May holiday weekend and anyone intending to travel to Croatia.

A lot of Slovenian’s would like to travel to Croatia however it is still in a difficult situation with a large number of people infected and an overburdened health system, said Ster.

He added that anyone wishing to travel to Croatia need not expect an “ideal tourism situation,” and that anyone crossing the border needs to have been inoculated with both doses of a vaccine, have a report that they have recovered from Covid-19 or posses a negative coronavirus  test. Only people owning property or vessels in Croatia, travel to care for immediate family or similar essential travel are exempted, but that travel is restricted to a limited time.

On Thursday the Slovenian government relaxed some of its epidemiological restrictions due to a gradually improved situation.

In the past 24 hours, Slovenia registered 900 new coronavirus cases with 16.8% of tests proving positive while six people died.

Hospitals are still admitting new patients and currently there are 629 patients in Covid wards, which is nine fewer than on Thursday and 159 patients are in intensive care units, a government spokeswoman Maja Bratusa said.

She warned that the situation was still delicate and unstable and that the number of hospitalized patients could start decreasing in a week or two.

The average daily numbers on the week is 689 whereas on Thursday that number was 684. The 14-day incidence rate is still fairly high with 229 per 100,000 population.
