Over the last 24 hours, 1,023 new coronavirus cases have been confirmed in Slovenia, and another 10 Covid-related deaths have been reported, the country's health authorities said on Friday.

One in five hospitalized Covid patients in intensive care units

Currently, there are 11,777 active cases, of whom 500 are receiving hospital treatment, including 109 in intensive care units.

The head of the national Covid-19 crisis management team, Mateja Logar, said that more and more patients with severe symptoms were those from younger age cohorts.

In the meantime, Slovenia has tightened border measures, so in addition to daily commuters having to show a negative antigen test result not older than seven days, anyone who crosses the border must have a PCR test.

Slovenia’s President, Borut Pahor, Prime Minister, Janez Jansa, and other top officials are expected to convene a meeting on Sunday to discuss measures aimed at curbing the spread of the virus.
