In the past 24 hours, Slovenia has confirmed 9,858 new Covid cases and 11 more deaths, the Slovenian public health institute said on Friday, adding that two-thirds of the tests taken returned positive.
Even though this is not a record number of daily cases as Tuesday saw a record 12,286 new infections, the epidemiological situation is still dramatic with an enormous increase in new cases on the week and the greatest share of positive cases among those tested.
A total of 14,714 PCR tests taken in the past 24 hours confirmed 9,858 cases of the novel coronavirus, which is a test positivity rate or 67%. The seven-day average in daily numbers has increased to 8,529 while the 14-day incidence rate is 4,576 per 100,000 population.
According to the Ministry of Health, there are currently 599 hospitalized Covid patients, including 143 in intensive care units, while the number of active cases surpassed 96,000. The total death toll to date now stands at 5,743.
The vaccination rate has not changed much, with 57.2 percent of the country’s 2.1m population fully vaccinated with two vaccine shots.
