Some 88,000 domestic guests stayed in "commercial accommodation facilities" in March 2021 in Croatia, or 103 percent up from March 2020, generating 184,100 overnight stays, or 74 percent up in the same period, state agency Hina reported on Friday citing state statistics bureau.
Commercial accommodation facilities had reported a total of 132,600 guests in March 2021, and they generated 359,600 overnight stays, which are increases of 27 percent and 24.2 percent respectively from March 2020, when a lockdown was imposed in Croatia and most of Europe due to the coronavirus pandemic, which was not the case this March, so there were more tourists despite the measures restricting travel.
In March 2021, there were 44,600 foreign guests in commercial accommodation facilities, or 27 percent down from in March 2020, generating 175,500 overnight stays, a 4.5 percent decrease on the year.
Over the first three months of 2021, Croatia’s commercial accommodation facilities reported 324,300 guests and 853,7000 overnight stays, which are decreases of 46 percent and 40 percent respectively compared with the first three months of 2020.
Domestic guests generated 243,000 arrivals and 523,700 overnight stays, the numbers dropping by 1.7 percent and 3.8 percent respectively year-on-year.
At the same time, there were 81,400 foreign tourists, or 77 percent down, and they generated 330,000 overnight stays, a drop of 63.4 percent on the year.
Both in March and in the first three months of 2021, most foreign tourists were from Germany, Austria and Italy.
