Slovenia on Wednesday confirmed 532 new coronavirus cases and six Covid-related deaths in the last 24 hours.
Prime Minister Janez Jansa said that 40 percent of the population is protected from the risk of infection, either by vaccination or by acquiring immunity after the recovery, and that the epidemic would be defeated by summer “provided that everyone observes the measures in place.”
The number of active cases in the country stands at 6,673, and the number of hospitalizations is also falling. Currently, 368 Covid-19 patients are in hospitals, of whom 110 are in intensive care, while the average daily number of new cases in the past week fell to 428. With six deaths in the last 24 hours, the coronavirus death toll has increased to 4,333, the government said.
So far, 27.2 percent of Slovenians have been vaccinated against Covid-19, of whom 14.2 percent have received both doses of vaccine.
