The Split-based Hospital Centre (KBC) on Friday held a final conference on the enhancement of its outpatient facilities after an investment of 68 million kuna for that purpose.

The KBC Split director Julije Mestrovic said that this great project had been successfully completed.

In 2017, the KBC Split, the ministry of regional development and EU funds as well as the relevant Croatian agency signed a contract on a grant consisting of 50 million kuna obtained from the EU Regional Development Fund and 18 million kuna ensured from the state budget.

Those allocations were used for the procurement of state-of-the-art equipment for 26 day hospitals.

The objective of the project was to reduce in-patient hospitalisations and now many patients are treated in those day hospitals, according to Mestrovic.

The number of beds in those facilities for outpatient hospitalisation has doubled.

The conference heard that in 2020, there were 124,000 hospitalised patients in the KBC Split, and of them only 37% needed in-patient hospitalisation.

The Split-based KB institution provides services for more than 1.2 million patients a year.
