Zagreb's Mayor-elect Tomislav Tomasevic said on Tuesday that he expected the ceremony of the transfer of powers between the acting mayor and him to be held at 8 am Friday.

As soon as he steps into office, Tomasevic will suspend his term as a member of the national parliament.

Tomasevic told a press conference in Zagreb on Tuesday that he expected to be also provided with a lengthy report on a state of affairs of all the projects in the pipeline or underway, a provisional financial report for the H1 2021, and a report on the execution of the budget in 2020.

Tomasevic is set to arrange meetings with the heads of all the 27 city departments on Friday.

He said he was aware that he was taking over the mayoral duty on the back of huge confidence of nearly 200,000 voters who cast their ballots for him in the mayoral runoff on Sunday.

He promised his and his term’s full commitment while running the City of Zagreb which he described as “a large, dynamic, and complex organism”.

He announced talks with the Social Democratic Party on the formation of the ruling majority in the city assembly.

Tomasevic, who was elected as the Green-Left bloc’s candidate, said that he had not yet received congratulations from Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic.

One of the first things we would like to do is to hold a meeting with the prime minister on key projects that require partnership between the government and the city of Zagreb, Tomasevic said, citing the post-quake reconstruction, a centre of competence for translational medicine (CCTM) at the Children’s Hospital Srebrnjak and a project of a new hospital in Novi Zagreb in this context.
