Health Minister Vili Beros informed the government on Wednesday that to date 38.5 percent of the adult population had been vaccinated against coronavirus, state agency Hina reported.

Beros said that more than 500,000 Croatians had been fully vaccinated so far, and added that Croatia “is close to the goal of acquiring herd immunity by the end of June.” He also added that the new coronavirus numbers this week were down by 40.5 percent compared to the previous week. Croatia has a population of about 4 million, including about 3.3 million of adults.

Number of beds hospital taken by Covid patients dropped by 10 percent in the same period, Beros said, but added that there are now increasing numbers of people suffering from post-Covid syndrome, and by early May, 14,500 post-Covid patients had to be treated in hospitals, he said.

PM Plenkovic called on all Croatians to get vaccinated over the next four weeks, in order to reach the target of immunizing 50 percent  of the total adult population.
