Health Minister Vili Beros said on Wednesday that Croatia has a better situation than neighbouring countries when it comes to active coronavirus cases and new infections however caution is still required.
Beros underlined that the rate of confirmed cases in Croatia has fallen continually since August 24 when 47.6 cases per 100,000 population were being recorded. In the week between 21 and 27 September that rate was 31.2 per 100,000 population, he said.
The share of positive cases in the total number of tests conducted is stable and has fallen from 12.5 in the 26th week of the epidemic to 3.7 now in the 31st week since the outbreak of the epidemic.
Indicators of the graveness of the clinical state of patients indicates an increased number of elderly persons who have been infected and are on ventilators which corresponds to current findings that elderly people are more likely to develop a more serious form of the disease.
The share of people hospitalised to total cases last week recorded an increase of two percent and 15.2 percent of total cases identified are hospitalised, which is an increase compared to last week’s 13.2%.
In the past week 177 patients were hospitalised and 135 were released. There are 63 healthcare workers positive for the novel virus currently, and 469 are in self-isolation.
Health institutions are preparing for the cold season so that patients waiting to be tested do not have to stand out in the cold.
Bozinovic: Meeting with hospitality sector and music industry on Friday
Interior Minister Davor Bozinovic announced a meeting for Friday between the National Civil Protection Authority and representatives of the hospitality sector and music industry to discuss further steps in combatting the coronavirus epidemic.
“A meeting is planned for Friday with representatives of the hospitality sector and music industry to agree on further steps and measures in the fight against the coronavirus for those two important segments for Croatia,” Bozinovic said at a cabinet meeting.
Mild increase in warnings
Bozinovic informed that last week 19,678 inspections were conducted and inspectors issued 1,179 warnings which is a mild increase over the past week.Two charges were made for not keeping a physical distance during two concerts, he added.
