A fire which erupted in pine woods at the Zrce beach on the northern Adriatic island of Pag in the night between Monday and Tuesday was put under control on Tuesday morning when three Canadair planes were involved in efforts to put out the blaze.

During the night a few thousand people were evacuated from the area near the twon of Novalja.

There have been no reports on injuries.
