The head of the Croatian branch of the Catholic charity organization Caritas, Mons Fabijan Svalina, said on Monday the charity had raised 2 million kuna (€265k) for Ukraine.
He said that close to 940,000 kuna (€124k) were donations paid into the charity’s account, while another 1 million kuna (€132k) has been raised via 23,000 calls to a donation line set up for that purpose.
Svalina thanked Privredna Banka Zagreb for announcing that it would donate 100,000 kuna for victims in Ukraine and also to the major consumer goods company Atlantic Group for announcing a payment of 75,000 kuna.
He called on other businesses and people of good will to support Caritas Croatia so that it can help the needy as effectively as possible, and thanked the many individuals for their payments.
Svalina said that from the start Caritas Croatia had been in contact with Caritas Europa, Caritas Internationalis, and Caritas branches in Ukraine, Poland, Romania, Moldova, Hungary, and the United States, and that they were coordinating activities.
He announced a convoy with food, warm clothes, protective gear, beds, mattresses, blankets, sleeping bags and tents for the displaced and refugees.
