The parliament's Home Policy and National Security Committee on Wednesday adopted a conclusion calling on members of parliament, state institutions and all other social stakeholders to clearly condemn any form of radicalism, hate speech or violence in Croatia.
The session, held behind closed doors and attended by Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, discussed the October 2020 attack on government offices and reports by the Ministry of the Interior, the Security-Intelligence Agency (SOA), and the State Attorney’s office on the case, as well as on arrests of citizens over posts on social networks.
The committee’s conclusions, reported to the Croatian state news agency Hina by Committee deputy chair Marijo Kapulica, call on the Ministry of the Interior to continue, in cooperation with the competent institutions, investigations to shed light on all the circumstances of the October 2020 terrorist act, notably identify persons who possibly instigated or helped 23-year-old Danijel Bezuk carry it out.
SOA was urged to pay attention in its work to potential security and terrorist threats posed by individuals self-radicalised with extremist propaganda and hate speech as well as to radicalised groups.
With regard to arrests over posts on social networks, the Committee adopted the Ministry of the Interior’s report after it was acquainted with the reasons for the assessment on which police action in those cases was based.
The conclusions were supported by a majority of Committee members, but not by its chair Sinisa Hajdas-Doncic, who had a dissenting opinion.
