The 12th edition of the Vukovar Film Festival, which is being held in the eastern Croatian town of Vukovar and its suburb of Borovo Naselje, started on Thursday evening.

The programme of the festival, which runs until August 26, includes more than 60 features, shorts, and documentary films, screened six venues around town.

Festival director, Igor Rakonic, said that this year’s edition will feature 16 films that had been screened at prestigious festivals in Cannes and Berlin, including seven titles which were critically acclaimed and awarded prizes at these events.

He added that over the last 12 years more than 900 feature films had been screened at the festival, seen by more than 300,000 movie lovers.

The festival also includes a competitive programme, awarding the Golden Barge prize in three categories – for the best long feature, best short feature and best documentary.
