Exports rise by 7.4%, imports by 9.8% on the year

Croatia's commodity exports in the first five months of 2019 totalled HRK 45.8 billion, up 7.4% on the year, while imports went up 9.8% to HRK 78.7 billion, the national statistical office said on Tuesday.

The foreign trade deficit was HRK 32.9 billion, nearly HRK 4 billion higher than in the first five months of 2018. The export-import ratio dropped annually from 59.5% to 58.2%.

Commodity exports to EU member states totalled HRK 30.9 billion, up 5% on the year, and HRK 14.8 billion to non-EU countries, up 12.9%.

Commodity imports from EU member states increased 12.7% to HRK 63.9 billion, while those from non-EU countries decreased 1% to HRK 14.7 billion.

Expressed in euros, Croatia's commodity exports in the first five months of 2019 totalled EUR 6.2 billion, up 7.8% on the year, while imports went up 10.2% to EUR 10.6 billion. The foreign trade deficit stood at EUR 4.4 billion, up from the EUR 3.9 billion in the first five months of 2018.

Commodity exports to EU member states totalled EUR 4.2 billion, up 5.3% on the year, and EUR 2 billion to non-EU countries, up 13.3%.

Commodity imports from EU member states increased 13% to EUR 8.6 billion, while those from non-EU countries decreased 0.6% to EUR 1.98 billion.
