Union leaders on Tuesday agreed to continue talks with the government on a 6% increase in the job complexity coefficients in the education sector, describing the talks as constructive and noting that a new round would be held next week as well as that union actions would be put on hold for the duration of the talks.

After two-hour talks with Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic, leaders of unions representing workers in the education sector said that the talks on the 6% rise in the job complexity coefficient in the education sector were constructive.

Science and Education Minister Blazenka Divjak confirmed this, noting that talks should resume next week.

Branimir Mihalinec of the NSZSSH union of high school employees, would not talk about any concrete figures, saying that the progress achieved at today’s meeting gave the unions reason to believe that they should continue the dialogue with the government.

“Once we finish the talks, union bodies will discuss their results and they will decide if we are satisfied with them or will try to achieve our rights in some other way,” said Mihalinec.

Sanja Sprem, the leader of the Croatian Teachers Union (SUH), reiterated that the unions’ goal in talks with the government was to achieve an average increase in the job complexity coefficient for education workers of 6.11%.
