Omicron is currently the dominant variant of coronavirus in Slovenia, where 82% of samples processed by the Ljubljana-based Institute of Microbiology and Immunology have turned out to be this variant.
Most cases are local transmission and some were imported from Belgrade, where a group of 900 young Slovenians attended New Year's Eve parties and 200 of them have been diagnosed with COVID-19, most of them with the Omicron variant, Nuska Caks-Jager of the Institute of Public Health told a news conference in Ljubljana on Friday.
The national laboratory of public health reported on Friday that the share of Omicron in positive cases was 63% in the last 24 hours.
Slovenian television stated that this variant had broken into the hospital in Jesenice, where 11 staff and as many patients were diagnosed with the Omicron infection.
