The Croatian Supreme Court has upheld a Dubrovnik County Court ruling on a request for the extradition of British whistleblower Jonathan Taylor to Monaco to face allegations of attempted extortion. A final decision on the extradition request rests with the Minister of Justice.

According to the Croatian highest court, in 2013 and 2014, in Monaco, Singapore and Great Britain, Taylor tried to extort his employer by threatening to reveal information relating to the role of the company in which he had worked in an international corruption case.

The Supreme Court decided that the first-instance court was right to rule that all legal requirements were met for extradition because Taylor is not a citizen of Croatia and the crime he is wanted for was not committed in Croatia or against Croatian nationals.

It noted that prosecution under Croatian law was statute-barred and that a final decision on extradition rested with the Minister of Justice.

Taylor, a British lawyer, was arrested on an Interpol warrant at Dubrovnik airport last July after arriving for a family holiday. He said he had exposed the involvement of the Monaco-based company in a multi-million dollar scam in 2012 and that those people were now trying to get back at him.
