Vaccine rollout starts in Slovenia's senior homes

In the last 24 hours, there have been 614 new cases of the coronavirus infection in Slovenia, and another 25 COVID-19 patients have died, the Slovenian government reported on Sunday when the vaccine rollout started in 53 old-age care centres throughout the country.

Of 1,880 PCR tests performed in the last 24 hours, 548 have returned positive plus 66 positive rapid antigen tests.

There are currently 18,666 active cases of the coronavirus infection in the country. Of them, 1,165 are receiving hospital treatment, including 208 in intensive care wards.

Slovenia's COVID-19 death toll now stands at 2,532.

The first three vaccinated persons in Slovenia were residents of retirement homes - retired Maribor Archbishop Franc Kramberger and another two beneficiaries. The vaccine rollout started in old-age care homes in Ljubljana, Maribor and Lenart.
