231,602 people with enforcement notices owing HRK 17 bn end of 2020

As at 31 December 2020, 231,602 people had been issued with enforcement notices owing a principal debt of HRK 16.96 billion as had 15,431 enterprises owing HRK 4.9 billion, the Fina financial agency reported on Monday.

Fina recalled that after a six-month government-sponsored moratorium expired on 19 October 2020, enforcements on money resumed.

At the end of December last year, there were 231,602 physical persons with unpaid debts, which was 6,533 or 2.7% fewer than in March 2020 and 5,709 or 2.4% fewer than at the end of December 2019.

The principal owed amounted to HRK 16.96 billion, which was HRK 400 million or 2.4% more than in March 2020 or HRK 100 million (0.8%) more than in December 2019. Interest debt amounted to HRK 6.3 billion, said Fina.

The majority of consumers’ debts (HRK 5.2 billion) without interest related to dues to banks as creditors, while debts owed to all financial institutions amounted to HRK 5.9 billion.

There were 2,472 or 13.8% fewer enterprises registered with debts at the end of December 2019 compared to the 15,431 registered at the end of December 2020.

The principal owed by enterprises at the end of December 2020 amounted to HRK 4.9 billion, which was HRK 959.6 million or 16.3% less than in December 2019. The amount of interest owed amounted to HRK 1.4 billion, Fina underlined.
