Croatia's commodity exports in the first eight months of 2019 totalled 74.1 billion kuna (€10 billion), up 5.8 percent year-on-year, while imports went up 5.9 percent to 123.5 billion kuna (€16.6 billion) , the country's statistics bureau reported on Wednesday.
The foreign trade deficit was 49.4 billion kuna (€6.6 billion), widening by 2.8 billion kuna (€378 million) than in the same period last year. The export-import ratio inched down from 60.1 percent to 60.0 percent year-on-year.
Commodity exports to EU member states in the period from January to August totalled 50.1 billion kuna (€6.7 billion), up 4.6 percent on the year, and 24 billion kuna (€3.2 billion) to non-EU countries, up 8.5 percent.
Commodity imports from EU member states increased by 9.1 percent to 99.6 billion kuna (€13.4 billion) while at the same time imports from non-EU countries decreased by 5.7 percent to 23.9 billion kuna (€3.2 billion).
