A total of 716 people have been tested for the novel coronavirus in Slovenia in the last 24 hours and results for 21 tests have come back positive, which is fewer positive cases than on Saturday when 30 new cases were reported.

Currently, six people are hospitalised and none of them are in intensive care.

Since the start of the coronavirus epidemic in Slovenia, 1,700 people have contracted COVID-19 and 106,368 people have been tested.

There are currently 180 active cases. There have been no new fatalities in the last 24 hours, so the death toll remains at 111, the country’s health ministry said on Sunday.

On Saturday, 30 new cases of the infection were reported, which is the largest daily number of new cases in the last two and a half months. Due to the new wave of the epidemic, the government has adopted new measures, including mandatory quarantine for all people returning from countries which have been put on a list of the epidemiologically least safe countries.

Local epidemiologists estimate that the increase in the number of new cases is connected with imports from abroad but that the disease has also been transmitted locally due to people relaxing too much, socialising in bars and at private parties and not always complying with quarantine rules.
