Several tens of thousands of citizens have gathered in Montenegro’s capital on Sunday evening in a protest organised by ‘Montenegrin patriotic organisations’ after pro-Serb opposition coalitions in the country took the majority in parliament in last week’s election.

The protesters, carrying Montenegrin flags, are yelling slogans such as “we are not giving up the state” and playing Montenegrin folk songs.

About 50,000 people have gathered in Podgorica. They are protesting what they perceive as a change in the direction for the country after the opposition took power from President Milo Djukanovic’s Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) after nearly 30 years of rule.

Police also said that it came across information that there could be incidents at the gathering.
